JACKSON GENERATION is designed to meet Illinois’ changing power needs. Our goal is to help modernize and diversify the power grid by adding a state-of-the-art combined cycle power plant. This combined cycle plant will run off a gas and steam turbine together, leading to more efficiency in power generation. The JACKSON GENERATION plant will be able to generate approximately 1,000-1,200 megawatts (MW), enough energy to power 1.2 million homes.
The new plant will enable Illinois to take advantage of increasingly affordable natural gas and will:
Keep electricity rates lower for consumers
Lessen Illinois’ dependence on inefficient, costly and outdated coal-fired generating plants
Keep Illinois competitive with other states
THE NEW PLANT WILL...
Up to 50% more efficient than peaking plants.
Produce Low Emissions
Producing among the lowest emissions of any fossil fuel generation facility in the U.S.
Fast, flexible, efficient, and reliable.
Stimulate the Local Economy
Construction is targeted to last 36 months and will employ approximately 500 craft union workers during peak construction phase.
Efficient support for intermittent wind and solar energy generation.
